Proud of band, school

To the Editor:

I watched the Bristol, Rhode Island, Fourth of July Celebration on the Internet. A featured band was the Fairmont High School Band and its director, Katie Kallenbach. The band was excellent and what a teacher, taking 131 students on a 10-day history of America and musical performance trip.

I’m partial to the Fourth of July since my three older brothers all served in the armed forces. My brother Dale served on the DMZ in Korea as an MP; my brother Adam served in Vietnam as a Marine and received brain cancer from Agent Orange. They all were proud to serve their country, all growing up in Fairmont and attending Fairmont Schools.

I am proud that I am a product of Lincoln Elementary, Fairmont Jr. & Sr. High Schools.

I am now retired living near Chattanooga, Tenn., yet watched with pride the Fairmont High School Band. I know my brother Adam would be so proud of his daughter Katie.

It was a great Fourth of July! If your children attend Fairmont Public Schools, be thankful and proud of their education.
