We thank our military and our God

To the Editor:

Memorial Day – a day set aside to honor and remember those who served in our military here and all over the world. Many of whom gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country so we can enjoy all the freedoms we have. A sacrifice they knew was worth giving to ensure their children and their children’s children could live in a safer environment filled with peace and joy.

While we pay a well-deserved honor to those men and women who have and are defending our country against evil, let us also pay tribute and honor to our God who not only protects us from evil, but sacrificed his only son for us so that we may live in peace and joy for eternity. (John 3:16-17) Never has there ever been or ever will be a greater battle fought for our salvation. Never has a greater sacrifice ever been made than when Jesus Christ willingly took all our sins upon himself, suffered the consequences we deserved and then ensured our victory over death by rising from the grave. (2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Peter 2:21-24, 1 Corinthians 15: 12-22, 50-57)

We are truly a blessed country to have people willing to sacrifice everything for us and to have a God who loves us enough to sacrifice his one and only son to ensure our eternal salvation. Neither of which we earned by our own merit but are freely given to us.

So I say thank you to all who have served and are serving in our military and Amen to our God who gave us the greatest victory of all.

May God bless your Memorial Day.
