ELMORE -- A Memorial Mass for Jim Hellman will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, at Divine Mercy Parish - St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bancroft. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Bancroft.
James "Jim" Hellman was born in Algona to Donna and Dennis Hellman on March 17, 1961. He grew up on the family farm in rural Burt. He went to school and graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Bancroft.
After graduating, he attended Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon and received a degree in automotive mechanics. His career started at Ken's Auto in Algona, where he continued to further his advancements. He earned ASE master mechanic certification, and many awards while working in Fairmont at Hawkins Chevrolet. He retired from Deitering Brothers Implement.
Jim met the love of his life Robin and was married on Sept. 20, 2003. They enjoyed a life of sharing the same interests with many motorcycle trips to South Dakota, several national parks, listening to live music, muscle cars, and going to the dragstrip. They also enjoyed going to bonfires and spending time with friends.
One of the most favorite things in Jim's life was the time spent with his family. Having a large family there were always lots of things to celebrate. The arrival of his great niece, "Dolly James" named after him brought so much joy and happiness to him. He was a great uncle to his nieces and nephews and was always willing to help them in any way he could.
Jim died on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, at Mayo Clinic in Mankato. He was 65.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Robin of Elmore, Minn.; siblings, Steve Hellman of Saylorville, Barbara (Craig) Nemmers of Armstrong; Lisa (Philip) Henriksen of Ringsted; and David Hellman of Des Moines; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Herman and Laura Kahler and Leo and Emma Hellman.
