Robert Meyer

ROCHESTER -- Robert Henry Meyer, 88, of Rochester, passed away on Oct. 1, 2026.

Robert, the oldest son of Henry W. and Emily [Laue] Meyer, was born at 1:15 a.m., November 20, 1937, in Fairmont, Minn. He was baptized on Dec. 2, 1937, by Rev. E.T.H. Walther at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wilbert, Tenhassen Township, Ceylon, Minn. Sponsors were Grandfather Dietrich H. Laue, Uncle William C. Simmering, Jr., and Aunt Alma (Laue] Able.

Rev. J. F. Malkow confirmed Robert at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wilbert, Tenhassen Township, Ceylon, Minn., on March 18, 1951. He received his eighth-grade education at St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Wilbert, Tenhassen Township, Ceylon, Minn., and was a 1955 graduate of Fairmont High School, Fairmont, Minn. On June 1, 1959, Mr. Meyer earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Mankato State College, Mankato, Minn. He earned his Master of Arts Degree from Colorado State College in 1963 and in 1974 was awarded the Doctor of Education degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He was employed as a business education teacher in the Rochester Public Schools for 29 years-having taught at John Marshall, Mayo, John Adams, Willow Creek, and Kellogg. On Nov.15, 1993, to June 30, 1994, he was the coordinator of professional technical [vocational] education in the Edison Building. Dr. Meyer retired at the close of the school year on June 9, 1997. His professional career spanned into five decades and included numerous activities and awards.

On June 3, 1962, Robert was united in marriage to Karen L. Anderson of Paton, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Manson, Iowa [1962-1964], and later in Faribault, Minn. [1964-1968]. On Aug. 19, 1968, they moved to Rochester where Robert taught at John Marshall High School and was the advisor to the Business Professionals of America-the high school youth group for students interested in business. His students won numerous awards at regional, state, and national competitive events and were also elected to offices at these respective levels. In 1995, the John Marshall chapter was awarded “The American Spirit” award--the most prestigious award given at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference by the United States Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Karen, of Rochester; one son, Brian (Jill) of Moorhead, Minn.; one daughter, Paula (Mark) of Longmont, Colo.; five grandsons, and three granddaughters; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sally Kay; one brother, Lee Alyn; one son, the Rev. Philip John, and one daughter, Sarah Kay.

Memorials can be made to the Rochester Central Lutheran School in memory of Robert H. Meyer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 869 7th Ave. SE, Rochester, Minn.. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester.
