ST. PETER -- Lois Thiesse, 94, of St. Peter, Minn., and formerly of Fairmont, Minn., died peacefully at Ecumen Prairie Hill Senior Center in St. Peter, Minn. on Sept. 30, 2026. Services for Lois Thiesse will be on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont, with visitation prior to the funeral service from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be at a later date at Fairview Memorial Cemetery, due to her body being donated to Mayo Medical Center for medical research. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is in charge of arrangements.
Lois Lucille (Malo) Thiesse, daughter of Elmer and Lucille (Grems) Malo, was born on June 9, 1932, on the family farm in Rutland Township in Martin County. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1949. On May 25, 1952, she was united in marriage to Veron Thiesse at Zion Lutheran Church of Fraser. The couple was blessed with five children, Kent, Clint, Jennifer, and twins Jon, and Jeff. The couple initially made their home at the family farm in Silver Lake Township, south of Fairmont until 1965, when they relocated and purchased a farm near Starbuck, Minnesota. They lived at Starbuck for 34 years, until moving back to Fairmont in 1999. Following Vernon's death in 2003, Lois continued living in Fairmont until 2023, when she relocated to Ecumen Prairie Hill in St. Peter, Minn.
During her early years, Lois was employed as a secretary at Wolf-Habein in Fairmont. After raising her children, she was later employed as a secretary at the Pope County Extension Office in Glenwood, Minn., as well as at Starbuck High School for 21 years. She later worked part-time at the Minnewaska Nursing Home in Starbuck and at J&R Drug in Fairmont. Lois also served as a Sunday School teacher and was a long-time 4-H leader in Martin and Pope counties. Lois was very active in Church activities at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert and Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, and later at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Lois enjoyed her time with family and friends, especially the annual family trips to Detroit Lakes, as well as playing cards, dominoes, and board games, constructing puzzles, and following the activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Lois Thiesse is survived by four of her five children, including son Kent (Liz) of Lake Crystal, Minn.; son Clint (Dana) of Reno, Nev.; daughter Jennifer of St. Peter, Minn.; and son Jeff (Jay Falcon) of Scottsdale, Ariz. Other survivors include daughter-in-law Melissa Blais of Canton, Ct., sister-in-law Dorthy Malo of Fairmont, Minn., grandchildren Jason (Norma) Thiesse of Rochester, Minn.; Amanda (Josh) Revier of Olivia, Minn.; Adrienne (Matt) Fore of Bixby, Oklahoma; Diedra Thiesse of Reno, Nev.; Lanaya Thiesse Nelson of Deep River, Ct., Emily (PJ) Rezmerski, St. Peter, Minn., and Levi (Paula) Menk of St. Peter, Minn.; and twelve great-grandchildren, including Natali and Colin Thiesse, Drew and Gabi Revier, Caris and Avery Fore, Jade, Casey, Olivia, and Neveah Rezmerski, Danny and Abby Flores, and many nephews and nieces.
Lois Thiesse was preceded in death by Vernon, her husband of 51 years, son Jon Thiesse, son-in-law Randy Menk, parents Elmer and Lucille Malo, Vernon's parents Edward and Erna Thiesse, brothers (sisters-in-law) Roland Malo, Robert Malo (Laurel & Sara), Kenneth Malo (Arlys), and Delmer Malo (Beth), and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Roland and Ruth Milow.
