EAST CHAIN -- A Funeral Service for Wendell Owens, 87, of East Chain, Minn., will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at East Chain Evangelical Free Church in East Chain, Minn. Burial will be held in East Chain Evangelical Free Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Wendell passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 25, 2026, at Sterling Pointe Assisted Living in Princeton, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Wendell Duane Owens was born on Sept. 19, 1938, to Wayne and Esther (Hall) Owens in Fairmont, Minn. He grew up in the East Chain area and later graduated from East Chain High School with the Class of 1956.
On Sept. 20, 1958, Wendell was united in marriage to Beverly Teigland at the East Chain Evangelical Free Church. This marriage was blessed with four children, Jodi, Tedd, Nathan and Nicole. Wendell and Bev made their home on the farm near East Chain.
Wendell was a dedicated farmer and agricultural consultant, sharing his knowledge and passion for agriculture with others. Farming was more than just his work--it was something he truly loved. He also greatly enjoyed spending time fishing, whether it was the anticipation of a good catch or simply the peaceful time spent on the water.
Wendell was a faithful member of the East Chain Evangelical Free Church, where he was actively involved in numerous church activities and faithfully served in a variety of offices throughout the years. Music was especially important to Wendell, as he enjoyed singing and listening to music. It was something that brought him great joy throughout his life and held a special place in his heart.
Wendell will be remembered for his strong faith, his love of farming, and the many ways he shared his time, talents, and knowledge with those around him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Tedd (Sue) Owens of Princeton, Minn., Nate (Kim) Owens of Kansas City, Kansas and Nikki Berg of Milaca, Minn.; son-in-law, Kevin Kristenson; grandchildren, Cara (Joel) Sahlstrom, Bryce (Kristen) Owens, Kassi (Logan) Cater, Kole (Kelsey) Kristenson, Konnor Kristenson, Sam Berg, Joe Berg, Jack Berg, Ben Berg and Matthias Owens; great-grandchildren, Theo, Freddie and Wella Sahlstrom, Waylon, Millie and Evie Owens, Nellie and Ollie Cater, and Leif Kristenson; and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Esther Owens; wife, Beverly Owens; and daughter, Jodi Kristenson.
