DASSEL, formerly of MENDOTA HEIGHTS -- Memorial Service for John G. Thomas, age 77, of Dassel, Minn., formerly of Mendota Heights, Minn., will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Minn., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. John passed away peacefully at his home on July 31, 2026, surrounded by family. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
John Gary Thomas was born on Aug. 17, 1948, to Lawrence and Hazel (Welch) Thomas. He attended Fairmont public schools and graduated from Fairmont High School. He proudly served his country in Vietnam and later dedicated many years of service to the U.S. Postal Service. John was loyal, supportive, and cared deeply for his family and friends. He was always ready to help when needed. John had lifelong friendships that he cherished. John's service to his country, his years of dedication to his family and friends will be forever remembered. His kindness, loyalty, and steady presence will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.
Left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Janeen (Mike) Radman of Interlachen, Fla.; son, Eric (Alena) Thomas of Dassel, Minn.; brother, Richard (Jan) Thomas of Woodbury, Minn.; sister, Lorraine (Larry) Carr of Grove City, Minn.; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several family members and close friends who thought the world of him.
Along with his parents, Lawrence and Hazel Thomas, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger, Darryl and Larry Thomas; and sisters, Doris, and Judy.
