FAIRMONT -- A time for celebrating and remembering the life of Darlene C. Kosbab, 59, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026, at the American Legion Post #36 in Fairmont (300 Downtown Plaza, Fairmont, MN 56031). Darlene passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, at her home in Fairmont, following a courageous fight with cancer. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Darlene Clara Kosbab was born on Feb. 12, 1967, in Fairmont, Minn., the daughter of Kenneth and Shirley (Quade) Kosbab. She attended school in St. Louis Park, Minn., and graduated from St. Louis Park High School. Following her graduation, Darlene continued to make her home in St. Louis Park.
In 1989, Darlene met the love of her life, Teig Flatten. Their relationship grew into a beautiful life together, and in 1996, the couple moved to Fairmont, where they would make their home and raise their family. Darlene and Teig were blessed with 37 years together and two daughters, Amanda and Katie, who were the pride and joy of her life.
Throughout her career, Darlene worked a variety of jobs, always approaching each one with a willingness to work hard and help others. She took particular pride in her time working as a cashier at a convenience store, where she enjoyed serving customers and the connections she made with the people she encountered.
Darlene's greatest joy in life came from being a mother and, especially, a grandmother. She was her children's biggest fan, always there to support Amanda and Katie in whatever they pursued. She treasured every opportunity to help with her grandchildren and loved watching them grow. Being a grandma was not simply a role she cherished; it was one of the greatest blessings of her life.
Darlene found happiness in quiet and simple moments. She enjoyed crocheting and working on cross-stitch projects, spending peaceful hours creating things with her hands. She loved reading, diamond painting, and working on crossword puzzles. She also had a competitive side and was always ready for a friendly challenge, whether it was a game of cards or a dart match. She enjoyed her favorite foods, especially fresh watermelon and strawberries.
Darlene had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Some of her favorite memories were made camping beneath the stars, sitting around the campfire, sharing stories, laughing, and enjoying the company of those she loved. Those evenings reflected so much of what mattered most to Darlene; family, togetherness, laughter, and making memories.
Darlene was a woman who loved her family deeply. She cherished time spent with those closest to her and never took those moments for granted. Her love, encouragement, competitive spirit, warm heart, and devotion to her family will be remembered and treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Teig Flatten; daughters, Amanda Kosbab (Josh Newville) and Katie Flatten; mother, Shirley Kosbab; grandchildren, Alexis Newville (Calvin Guritz) Karissa Newville, Bella Newville, Joshua Newville, Jackson Newville, and Gatlan Colt Oudekerk Flatten; two brothers, Doug (Renee) Kosbab and Randall Kosbab; two "special" sons, Sam Dodd and Braden Kumm; nieces, Tiffany Olsen, Diana Marson, and Melissa Fry; two four legged friends, Daisy Mae and Mischief; as well as many other extended family and friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Kosbab and other family.
