FAIRMONT -- Funeral Services for Edward "Ed" R. Eckmann, age 75, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Lakeview Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 24, at Lakeview Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Ed passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at United Hospital District in Blue Earth, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Edward Roy Eckmann was born on May 19, 1951, in Fairmont, Minn. He was the son of Roy and Phyllis (Knight) Eckmann. Ed attended Fairmont public schools and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1969. After high school, Ed went to work doing construction for Tow Brothers and most recently drove for Bettin Trucking in Fairmont.
On May 1, 1982, Ed was united in marriage to Janice Kotewa in Fairmont. The couple resided in Fairmont where they were blessed with son, Benjamin, who shares a birthday with Ed, and daughter, Sara. Ed and Janice shared over forty-four years together.
Ed enjoyed spending time outdoors including hunting and target shooting. He loved grilling, doing various carpentry work, or just hanging out with his buddies whether it was playing pool or just having a beer while telling stories and jokes. Ed most cherished the time he was able to spend with his family.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janice Eckmann; children, Benjamin (Jessica) Eckmann, and Sara (Evan) Peters; grandchildren, Kylee (Brayden) Rhey, Brody Eckmann, Kenzie Eckmann, Connor Peters, and Myla Peters; siblings, Alice (Don) Christenson, Bob "Elmo" (Joey) Eckmann, Melody Seifert, and Kevin (Raelin) Eckmann; mother-in-law, Caroline Kotewa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Judy (Dick) Zehms, Jim Kotewa, Mary Becker, Joel Kotewa, and Randy Kotewa; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Rono; father, Roy (Evie) Eckmann; father-in-law, Edmund Kotewa; brothers-in-law, Ken Seifert, and Wayne Kotewa; sister-in-law, Laura Kotewa; nephews, Brian Seifert, and Matthew Zehms; and best friend, Carroll Domek.
