FAIRMONT -- A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 7 p.m. for Robert M. Clark, 104, of Fairmont, Minn., at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and led by the Chain Lake Masonic Lodge #64 of Fairmont. Full military honors will be held immediately following the service by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1222. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato, Minn. Robert passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Robert Montgomery Clark was born Sept. 23, 1921, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Robert M. and Marion A. (Shook) Clark. He grew up in Minneapolis, where he attended school until the age of 15. The family then moved to Aberdeen, S.D. before moving to Mankato, Minn., where Bob graduated from Mankato High School with the class of 1939.
Following his graduation, Bob went on to further his education, attending Mankato State Teacher's College for two years prior to enlisting in the United States Army where he served as a clerk/typist in the medical corp. Bob's time in the Army spanned from July 1942 to November 1945 where he was stationed stateside in Colorado before heading overseas where he was stationed in New Britain, the Philippines and Japan. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Bob returned home to Minnesota where he attended the University of Minnesota and earned his accounting degree.
While working towards his accounting degree, Bob enlisted the help of his father in finding a girlfriend and his dad pointed him towards Hazel Hawk who worked in the deputy collections department for the IRS in Mankato, Minn. The couple was set up on a date by Bob's dad and on Aug. 10, 1946, the couple was married in North Mankato, Minn.
Bob and Hazel made their home in St. Paul for eight years before moving to Albert Lea in 1958. Following a brief return to St. Paul, Bob left the IRS and the couple moved to Fairmont where Bob worked at Axford and Egeland. Bob bought into the company and later worked with Todd Paulus and Linton and in 1971; after passing his CPA exam, Bob opened his own CPA business where he continued to work until 2007.
Bob kept incredibly busy owning and operating his own accounting firm and was proud of the work he did. In his spare time, He enjoyed target shooting at the Fairmont Rifle Club and was a devoted member of the Chain Lake Masonic Lodge #64 of Fairmont. Bob also had a special place in his heart for cats.
Left to cherish his memory is a sister-in-law, Judy Clark; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marion Clark; wife, Hazel Clark; brothers, James Clark, Richard Clark, Hubert Clark, and Herbert Clark; one sister, Margaret Clark; as well as other family.
