Martin A. Rose
JACKSON — Martin August Rose, son of Peter Heinrich and Elsie Louise (Brockmann) Rose was born Feb. 1, 1933, at his parent’s home in Lake Fremont Township, Martin Co. Minn. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dunnell, Minn. and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha, Minn. on May 25, 1947. He attended Dunnell public school until 1944 when the family moved to Enterprise Twp, Jackson Co. Minn. He then attended District 94 rural grade school and graduated from Jackson High School in 1951. Martin served in the United States Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955, spending time in France rebuilding after the war. He was able to visit his grandparents and other relatives in Germany when taking leave.
Martin was united in marriage to Harlene Nelda Schulz on Nov. 27, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church Kimball Twp, Minn. They began their life together farming near Dunnell in Lake Fremont Twp, Martin Co. Minn. and lived there until 1967, when they moved to the Rose family farm in Enterprise Twp, Jackson Co., Minn. Martin farmed and did various carpentry and construction projects in the area. In 2002, they moved to a home they designed and built in Jackson, Minn. Mark purchased the family farm, ensuring its legacy would continue for another generation. Martin continued to work on the farm for many more years.
Martin will be remembered as a faithful, kind man with a good sense of humor. He was a gifted carpenter building furniture, grandfather clocks, and many other things. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kimball Twp, serving as elder, church choir member and playing Dart Ball. He served on the board of directors for the Rural Electric Association (REA) for 15 years and enjoyed traveling. He delivered specimens for New Fashion Pork for several years. He worked with Jackson County officials on the Jackson High School 1938 Building Preservation Alliance, attempting to preserve that historic building.
Martin passed away at Temperance Lake Ridge, Sherburn, Minn., on June 5, 2026, at the age of 93.
Martin is survived by his wife of 70 years, Harlene. His four children and their spouses; Mark (Kerri Pastika) of Alpha, Denise (Doug Wetzler) of Jackson, Lorene (Michael Gray) of Lindstrom, Kevin (Lisa Caviness) of Windom. He has nine grandchildren; Breanna Wetzler, Lynsey Wetzler, Emma (Gray) (Anders Lindberg), Jonathan (Malory Pearson) Gray, Jordan Rose, Peter Gray, Taylor Rose, Anna Rose (fiancé Sheldon Jenson), Erik Rose. Four great-grandchildren; Elin and Svea Lindberg, Gage and Odin Gray. The grands all knew how much Grandpa loved chocolate covered cherries! One brother, David (Angeline Mickelson) Rose of Key West, Fla.; one sister, Barbara Dennis of St. Peters, Miss. and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elsie Rose; parents-in-law, Chester and Anna Schulz; brother, Phillip Rose of Littleton, Colo.; and brothers-in-law, Dennis Schulz and William Dennis.
Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Alpha, Minnesota with visitation one hour prior to the time of service from 10 to 11 a.m. Lunch will be served after the service, followed by interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Kimball Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Kimball Twp.
