Fred passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Home in Jackson, Minn. Fred Lee Krueger was born on Dec. 26, 1945, in Estherville, Iowa, to Charles and Vera (Rowe) Krueger. He grew up in Dunnell where he attended elementary school and later received his high school education in Sherburn.

Following high school, Fred answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He served proudly during the Vietnam War and carried a deep sense of pride in his military service throughout his life. After receiving his honorable discharge, Fred returned home to Minnesota and worked for many years at John Morrell in Estherville, Iowa.

Fred was blessed with a remarkable talent for fixing things. Whether repairing, building, or troubleshooting, there seemed to be very little he could not do. He found great satisfaction in working as a handyman and helping others with projects both big and small.

A dedicated veteran, Fred was a proud member of Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post #356 in Sherburn, Minn. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and playing cards, especially a spirited game of 500. In his younger years, Fred treasured the opportunity to play baseball whenever he had the chance. Later in life, he discovered a love for karaoke and brought joy to many as he sang and operated the karaoke machine at local gathering places.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Robert Krueger of Stevensville, Mont.; siblings, Ida (Larry Duncan) Pullen of San Tan Valley, Ariz., Lois Ziemer of Dunnell, Minn., Hazel (Allen) Mumm of Danvers, Minn., Ray (Theresa) Krueger of St. Charles, Ill., Carl (Kathy) Krueger of Heron Lake, Minn., Don (Sue) Krueger of Aurelia, Iowa, Dale (Theresa) Krueger of Dunnell, Minn., and Clair (Jan) Krueger of Apache Junction, Ariz.; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vera Krueger; grandparents, Fred and Mary Rowe; sister, Mary Marschke; brother, Bill Krueger; three brothers-in-law, Dave Pullen, Martin Ziemer, and Dale Marschke; nephew, Rick Mumm and two nieces, April Krueger and Kristin Ling.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Fred’s name to the Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post #356, Sherburn, MN 56171 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
