Gayle Kae (Rowan) Larkin was born on Sept. 4, 1938, to parents, Vern D. and Ruby L. (Yackle) Rowan on the family farm near Granada. She was the second of thirteen children born to the couple and learned early the values of responsibility, perseverance, and caring for others.

Growing up on the farm was a life Gayle deeply treasured and shaped her into the woman so many knew and loved. Before school each day, she faithfully helped with chores and eagerly worked alongside her father whenever she could. Those early years built a strong work ethic and appreciation for simple joys that she carried with her throughout her life.

Gayle received her education attending Country School District #28 through the eighth grade before graduating from Granada High School with the Class of 1956.

In Aug. 1957, Gayle was united in marriage to Loren “Corny” Larkin. Their journey together first took them to Fort Polk, La., while Corny proudly served in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, the couple returned to Fairmont, where they built a loving home and raised their three children: Jon, Jody, and Jay.

Gayle worked a variety of jobs in her younger years, but the majority of her career was spent at 3M, where she dedicated 34 years before retiring. Retirement, however, never slowed Gayle down. She enjoyed staying active through various odd jobs and especially cherished the friendships she formed while working a few hours each week at Curves in Fairmont. Gayle had a gift for making people feel welcome, and those friendships became very special to her.

She found joy in many things throughout her life. Gayle was an avid reader and an accomplished card player who especially loved a good game of bridge. In later years, she embraced technology with curiosity and enthusiasm, treasuring daily check-ins with family and friends through email and Facebook.

Family was at the center of Gayle’s world. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories through family gatherings, visits, and travels together around the country and around the world. Her love for her family was constant, unwavering, and deeply felt by all who knew her.
