Lorraine June (Schlappe) Reiter, child of God, died Wednesday afternoon, April 22, 2026, at home surrounded by her family. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lorraine was born on June 25, 1930, to Adolph and Julia (Schletty) Schlappe at their home on the farm in Dodge County, rural Pine Island. She was proud of her 100 percent Swiss heritage and grew up among many Swiss families near the Swiss community of Berne, Minn.

Lorraine received her early education at Oak Ridge School in rural Dodge County and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1948, where she met her future husband, Duane Reiter.

After high school, Lorraine worked at a bank in Rochester and, after she and Duane married in 1952, she transferred to a bank on the University of Minnesota campus and supported Duane through dental school.

In 1956, they moved to Amarillo, Texas, for Duane’s Air Force service. It was there that they welcomed their firstborn, Blake. In 1958, they chose Fairmont as their home and Mark and Kathryn later joined the family. Lorraine and Duane enjoyed 55 years of marriage until Duane’s death in 2008 and made lifelong friends along their way.

Never afraid of work, she was respected for her attention to detail and quiet dependability. She believed in hard work and demonstrated that by reluctantly retiring at age 84 as the office manager for Reiter Dental.

Lorraine was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was actively involved in the Anna Circle, served as co-leader of the funeral committee and volunteered in numerous other programs through the years.

Lorraine’s natural inclination was doing service-in an unassuming and humble manner and never wanting attention. She was also a talented cook and combined this skill with her caring nature-sharing food and time with neighbors, family and others.

Lorraine often expressed gratitude for her many blessings. She had a generous nature, was a lover of babies and granddogs and someone who appreciated life’s simpler pleasures — a vanilla ice cream cone and an electric blanket. She would be glad family and friends would gather together in the springtime-without risk of travel in ice or snow.

Lorraine was a beautiful woman of faith and strength who taught us to love Jesus.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. We will miss her.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by infant granddaughter, Jennifer Reiter, sister Mavis Kyllo; brothers-in-law Palmer Kyllo and Gary Kasten.

Left to cherish her memory include her two sons: Dr. Blake Reiter and his wife Becky of Poulsbo, Wash. and Dr. Mark Reiter and his wife Ilene of Fairmont, Minn.; one daughter, Kathryn Mason and her husband, Jim, of Eden Prairie, Minn. Seven grandchildren: Jessica Reiter, Nicholas (Talia) Reiter, Jacob (Kendra) Reiter, Andrew (Dr. Tina Techar) Reiter, Daniel Reiter, Sydney (Chris) Casey and Carter Mason. Six great grandchildren: Luke Zelie, Arlo and Zoë Reiter, Leah and Maia Reiter and Callahan Casey; sister: Kathleen Kasten; nieces and nephews and so many others who loved her.
