Alice “Bunny” Meta Fillmore was born March 11, 1927 to Albert and Meta (Luedtke) Fillmore in Fairmont, Minn. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1945 and continued her education at Carleton College. During these school years, Bunny enjoyed having fun with friends, many of which remained her close friends for life.
On May 3, 1953, Bunny was united in marriage to Walter F. Peters at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Fairmont. This marriage was blessed with three children: Bruce, Paul, and Elizabeth. They made their home in Ceylon before she and Wally retired to Fairmont on the banks of Bunny’s beloved Budd Lake, just a mile from where she grew up.
Bunny worked at Davis Printing and the License Bureau prior to her marriage and then was a bookkeeper for her husband’s John Deere implement business, Peters Bros., while also helping on the family farm. Her main focus in life was being a devoted housewife and mother. She was a lifelong member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Vestry and served on various guilds. Bunny was also a Red Cross volunteer and donated to many local charities. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, swimming, writing, bowling, playing golf and bridge, doing puzzles, and taking daily walks.
She is survived by her children, Bruce (Paula) of Fairmont, Paul (Benadene) of Ceylon, and Elizabeth (Richard) Viesselman of Trimont; grandchildren, Eric (Jenna) Peters, Lisa (Jeremiah) Campbell, Michael (Arica) Peters, Rachel Viesselman, and Matthew Viesselman; great-grandchildren, Layla and Ivy Peters, Grace, Noah, and Wesley Campbell, and Daley, Sylvie, and Rosie Peters; and other relatives including a cousin, a nephew, and nieces.
Bunny was preceded in death by her husband, Wally Peters; parents, Albert and Meta Fillmore; parents-in-law, Arthur and Lydia Peters; brother, Edward Fillmore and his wife, Joyce; in-laws, Alfred and Lydia (Peters) Roesner, Arthur Peters, Jack and Ann (Peters) Vollrath, and William Peters; and other relatives.
The family would like to thank Goldfinch Estates staff (especially Tiara), UHD Hospice staff (especially Allissa), and many others who cared for Bunny and supported the family.
Memorials are preferred to the Martin County Historical Society, UHD Hospice, Fairmont Dollars for Scholars, or other local charities.
