Janit Sapa
BLUE EARTH — Janit Deloris Sapa, age 92, of Blue Earth, passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones on March 16, 2026, at UHD. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Blue Earth. Online condolences can be left at www.pattonfh.com.
Janit was born in Kiester, Minn., the daughter of Swan and Julia (Johnson) Peterson. She attended Blue Earth High School. On Nov. 7, 1950, Janit married the love of her life, John Sapa. The couple was blessed with five children. Janit worked at numerous jobs, including J.C. Penny and Seneca Foods before retiring.
Janit enjoyed reading, crafting, and helping John create many cherished family keepsakes. She always had a meal of the best comfort foods ready for anyone who came into her home. Many happy memories were made with friends and family in the home she made with John on South Main Street in Blue Earth. Janit will be deeply missed by all those who loved her.
Janit is survived by her children, Vickie Zabel of Blue Earth; Cheryl Bell of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; Deb Sapa of Jordan, Minn.; and Tim (Christine) Sapa of Gaston, Ore. She is also survived by her son-in-law Bob Wagner of Zumbrota, Minn. Janit was a loving grandmother to 12 grandchildren; Maura Humason, Jen Nelson, Kevin (Sarah) Zabel, Lori (Brian) Mueller, Denise (Lukas) Patten, Breanna (Brian) Welke, Austin (Amanda) Wagner, Emily (Duane) Engebretson, Jess (Lucas) Rogers, Michael (Ashley) Bell, Ali (Tyson) Mizell and Caleb Sapa; 35 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Janit is preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, John; her daughter, Chris Wagner; sons-in-law, Vern Zabel and Gary Bell; five sisters and four brothers. She was the last remaining sibling of the ten Peterson children born to Swan and Julia.
