Leon E. Schleininger

FAIRMONT — A Celebration of Life will be held for Leon E. Schleininger, Jr., 86, of Fairmont, Minn., from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Knights of Columbus in Fairmont. Leon passed away on Monday morning, Feb. 9, 2026, at Truman Senior Living in Truman, Minn. Memorials may be directed to the Leon Schleininger Estate, PO Box 152, Fairmont, Minn. 56031. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont, Minn., is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Leon Edward Schleininger, Jr. was born on Nov. 14, 1939, to Leon Edward Sr. and Florence (Brecht) Schleininger in Fairmont, Minn. He graduated from Granada High School.

Leon was united in marriage on April 15, 1961, to Ardis Manzke at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Leon worked as a farm hand for Teddy Borchardt and Lyman Fox in the Welcome area and then worked for Hodgman and Sons of Fairmont before working for Peerless Cleaners in Fairmont. Leon then began working for the Fairmont School District, where he did the swimming pool maintenance and was a janitor and bus driver. In 1980, Leon established Landscaping Plus and continued working at the school district until retiring in 2001, when he began working full time for Landscaping Plus.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Kenneth (Lori Putney) Schleininger and Kevin (Jodi) Schleininger; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Dustin) Scheppmann, Andrew Schleininger, Daniel Schleininger, Ryan (Maggie) Schleininger, Zachary Schleininger and Tyler Schleininger; four great-grandchildren, Austin Schleininger, Elin Scheppmann, Reed Scheppmann and Dawson Schleininger; brother, Steven (Wendy) Hannsen; sister, Donna Schleininger; sisters-in-law, Jane (Ralph) Thoren, Lois Martinez, RoseAnne Manzke, Kathy Manzke and Sandy Grefe; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon, Sr. and Florence (Alf) Hannsen; parents-in-law, Harold and Fern Manzke; son, Mark Schleininger; brother, Larry Schleininger; sister, Joyce (Donald) Henriksen; brothers-in-law, Arlo Manzke, James Manzke, Marlin Manzke and Duane Manzke; other extended family.
