Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Sherburn Cemetery at a later date. Ardis passed away on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minn. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ardis was born March 15, 1933, in Estherville, Iowa, to Walter and Ella (Bratland) Mann. She moved to rural Dunnell, Minn., as a child. There she attended country school through 8th grade. Ardis graduated from the Sherburn-Dunnell High School in 1951.
On June 28, 1953, Ardis was united in marriage to Lyle Weiss. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell, Minn. They were blessed with three children: David, Kathleen and Annette. They lived on the Weiss family farm in rural Sherburn until moving to Fairmont in 2012.
Ardis was a secretary at Interstate Power Company in Sherburn for two years. She was a self-taught seamstress and found great joy in making garments, alterations, drapery and church banners. She worked as a counselor at Diet Center Inc. in Fairmont, Minn., for several years. Ardis was involved in the community serving as a PTA president, AFS president/mentor, and a board member for the Fairmont Concert Association for many years. She was a woman of strong faith in the Lord and raised her family in Christian teaching. Over the years, she sang in church choirs, started a church library at St. John’s Lutheran in Sherburn, was active in LWML, and attended and taught Bible Studies.
Ardis had many interests. She enjoyed collecting antiques, reading, learning about other cultures and people, listening to music of many genres and attending concerts. She helped Lyle with showing Arabian horses and riding in the buggy with vintage clothing! She attended many events and concerts of her children and grandchildren, giving them her full support. She loved her Norwegian heritage and did genealogy of her mother’s family. She was fortunate to take a trip to Norway. She kept the Norwegian traditions alive for her family. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and our home was decorated with Scandinavian tomtes, nissen, and complete with a fully Norwegian decorated Christmas tree! We enjoyed the annual Christmas Scandinavian meals, especially her rice pudding and fruit soup! Ardis was a very gracious and loving mother and grandmother. Her kind and caring heart was extended to all of her friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, David (Kathleen) Weiss of Trimont, Minn., Kathleen Lyons of Rochester, Minn., and Annette (Greg) Jenkins of Winnebago, Minn.; grandchildren, Dustin Weiss, Krista Weiss (Jory Wagenman), Lackel, Larissa, Lessing and Lathan Lyons, Meredith and Chris Jenkins; sister-in-law, Clarine Weiss-Glidden; and nieces and nephews.
Ardis was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle of 70 years; infant daughter; parents; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Bruce Mitchell; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Helen (Ken) Crawford, and Darlene (Edwin) Mikosch; brother-in-law, Glenn Weiss; son-in-law, Lonnie Lyons; and extended relatives.
The family wishes to thank UHD Hospice and Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center for the wonderful care they provided to Ardis.
Those who live in the Lord never see each other for the last time. May Almighty God bless the memory of Ardis as He blessed her in her earthy life.
