Grant A. Roesner was born on Aug. 22, 1999, in Fairmont, Minn. He was the son of Aaron Roesner and Jessi (Hinrichsen) Carlson. Grant attended Fairmont public schools and graduated from Fairmont High School.

Grant worked in the culinary industry as a chef for Longhorn Steakhouse. He was an advocate for outdoor groups; the Southeastern Climber’s Coalition who works to preserve climbing areas in the southeast, The Access Fund that is the national advocacy organization that leads and inspires the climbing community towards sustainable access and conservation of the climbing environment, and Pack it in – Pack it out, the leave no trace principle, you must carry out all trash, food, and waste that you generate in natural areas, leaving a place cleaner than you found it so it prevents harm to wildlife and reduces costs to the parks for maintenance.

Grant valued time with family and friends. When he was younger, he loved going camping as a family and with the Boy Scouts. He earned his black belt in Taekwondo and played baseball and soccer. Grant loved to rock climb and was advancing to more difficult levels in Kentucky and North Carolina. He loved going hiking, sleeping under the stars, having campfires, fishing, kayaking, going longboarding, biking, snowboarding, and sailing and boating- basically anything outdoors! Grant loved to cook. The spicier, the better. And in his downtime, Grant enjoyed getting online with friends and videogaming.

Left to cherish his memory include his father, Aaron Roesner (Crystal Pfisterer); mother, Jessi (Matt) Carlson; sisters, Mackenzie Carlson, and Madison Carlson; grandparents, Fred and Gloria Roesner, Hans and Cindy Hinrichsen, and Carol Carlson; great grandmother, Marie Laffey; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
