Linda Marie Mortvedt
ASHBY, Mass. — Linda Marie Mortvedt, 60, of Ashby, Mass., passed away peacefully on Jan. 23, 2025, with her beloved miniature Schnauzer, Thor, and her devoted partner, Mark Conrad, by her side.
Born on May 26, 1964, in Blue Earth, Minn., Linda was the cherished daughter of Oris “Mort” and Evangeline “Tootie” Mortvedt. From an early age, she showed a love for movement and expression, studying dance and gymnastics under Kathy Borchardt, founder of the Borchardt Dance Company in Fairmont. She excelled in jazz and tap, and was often seen dancing her way through a store or down a sidewalk.
Linda attended Blue Earth Area High School, where she participated in a variety of activities, including band and track. A talented flutist, she was known for her skillful piccolo solo in Stars and Stripes Forever. She earned several honors and awards during her high school years. After graduating in 1982, Linda attended Mankato State University (now Minnesota State University, Mankato), where she earned a degree in Community and Physical Education.
Following college, Linda fulfilled her dream of living near the mountains by moving to Frisco, Colo., launching her career in the fitness industry. There she met Fred Harkrider and the two were married in a beautiful ceremony at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, Minn. Linda and Fred made their home in Arlington, Texas, where they shared their love of dogs by welcoming two golden retrievers and Linda’s loyal miniature schnauzer, Moose. Though Linda and Fred later went their separate ways, they remained lifelong friends.
Linda’s fitness and wellness career eventually transitioned into human resources, where she excelled in mentorship and leadership roles. Later she met Mark Conrad, with whom she shared a deep and enduring bond. When Mark returned to the Boston area to be closer to his family, they maintained a long-distance relationship until Linda joined him there, where they built a loving home together.
In 2017, Linda began to experience challenges with speech and writing and was eventually diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. Throughout her illness, she was surrounded by love, with Mark serving as her steadfast and compassionate caregiver until her passing.
Linda will be remembered for her radiant spirit, her laughter and her ability to bring warmth and light into the lives of those around her. Her love of music, movement and connection will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister, Roxanne Mortvedt (Chuck Lewis) of Mankato, Minn.; her brother, Jason Mortvedt of Blue Earth, Minn.; her nephew, Dennis (Tammy) Anderson of North Mankato, Minn.; three grand-nieces, Alecea, Kia, and Maila Anderson; and many cousins.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (www.theaftd.org) or The Dementia Society of America (www.dementiasociety.org).
