Lola M. Schultze

FAIRMONT — Funeral Service for Lola M. Schultze of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn., with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the church. Lola passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025, having reached the age of 91 years, eight months and nine days.

Lola Mae (Diersen) Schultze was born on March 21,1934 to Adolph and Alma (Goebel) Diersen in Tenhassen Township, Martin County, Minn. A life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn., where she was baptized on April 8, 1934 and confirmed in her faith on March 30, 1947. Lola attended school at St. Paul’s Wilbert and Fairmont High School. After graduating with the class of 1951, Lola worked as a secretary for Atty. E.L Ballou in Fairmont.

Lola was united in marriage to Lawrence Schultze in Wilbert, Minn., on Jan. 2, 1953. Lawrence and Lola lived in Killeen, Texas, (Ft Hood) where he was stationed with the US Army and she worked as secretary for Atty. Tom Carlile. Following Lawrence’s honorable discharge in Feb. 1955, and returning to Minnesota, Lola worked at Fairmont National Bank for two years. The couple made their home on the Schultze family farm near Wilbert and were blessed with four children, Laurie, Steven, Sandra, and Stanley.

Lola was the volunteer church secretary for St. Paul’s Lutheran Wilbert from the 1960’s into the 1990’s. In 2001, Lola trained as a Home Health aide and served as a respite PCA assisting in caring for granddaughter, Samantha. Officially retiring in 2018, Lola continued to enjoy spending time with Sam each week. Lola was dedicated to her family and helping Lawrence manage the farm. She also was involved in LWML at St Paul’s Church in Wilbert, with the Lutheran Retirement Home Auxiliary, the Fairmont Hospital Auxiliary, and the Ceylon Legion Post 529 Auxiliary. Lola and Lawrence shared over sixty-nine years together before Lawrence passed away on May 22, 2022. Lola remained on the farm until moving to Lakeview Health Care Center in October of this year.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Laurie Garrels Miller (Mike), Sandra Johnson (Bart), Stan Schultze (Pam); Daughter-in-law, Linda Schultze; Thirteen grandchildren, Allie Garrels (Troy Henrich), Lucas Schultze (Sherry), Elizabeth Gwaltney (Justin), Lacey Archerd (Fletcher), Ruth Johnson (Tim Leitner), Billy Schultze (Maddy), Callie Hartmann (Nate), Bobby Schultze (Courtney), Cammy Hilgendorf (Nick), Noah Johnson (Julia), John Johnson (Reina Gehrt), Andy Schultze (Megan) and Samantha (Emma) Schultze; 14 great-grandchildren,

Olivia, Josiah, Eleanora, Braylah, Annalyn, Kezzian, Abiella, Milietta, Abraham, Ingrid, Rosemary, Daisy, Magnolia, and Rafael; sisters, brother, and in-laws, Marlene Rolf, Diane and Steve Chase, Jean and Paul Labbus, Tammy Diersen, Gary and Jackie Diersen, Kari Wedel, Bonnie Conner, Norma Conner, Linda and Gary Stangland, Leona Simonett, Arthur Boese, Marie Schultze; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friend Frank Winzenburg.

Lola was predeced in death by her husband Lawrence; son Steven; grandchildren, Jocelyn and Logan Garrels; great grandson, Charlie Schultze; parents Adolph and Alma; step-mothers, Clara (Goebel) Diersen, and Elaine (Conner) Diersen; in-laws, Martin and Emma Schultze; sisters, Evelyn Laue and her husband Martin, Judith Gove and her husband Robert, and Carolyn Conner; brothers, Howard Diersen, Bruce Diersen, and Roger Conner; brothers and sisters in-law, Dennis Rolf, Lloyd Wedel, Irma and Edward Bremer, Ruth and Lyle Bremer, Clarence Schultze, Regina Boese, and Lorene Schultze; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Martin Luther High School in Northrop, St. James Lutheran School in Northrop, St Paul Lutheran School in Fairmont, or to St Paul’s Lutheran School in Truman.
