Layne was born in Fairmont, Minn., where he was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and graduated from Fairmont High School. He proudly served as a Fairmont firefighter for many years, a role he deeply valued and enjoyed. Layne later moved to Minneapolis and was employed by Northwest Airlines. In 2020, he relocated to Arizona, where he treasured the opportunity to be close to his mother during his remaining years.

Left to cherish Layne’s memory is his devoted mother, Lanier. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry; and his brother, LaRon. He is also remembered with kindness by Kris, with whom he shared part of his life’s journey; as well as by cousins Janae Greier and Jeanine Thompson; his beloved dog, Ozzy, who was like one of the family; and by extended family and friends who will forever hold his memory with love.
