Robert “Bob” Donavon Weerts

WINNEBAGO — Robert “Bob” Donavon Weerts, 73, of Winnebago, Minn., passed away peacefully on Oct. 15, surrounded by his loving family. Known for his boundless generosity, infectious positivity, and the way he made everyone feel like an old friend, he leaves behind a legacy of love that will never fade.

Born on Jan. 19, 1952, in Winnebago, Minn., to Donovan and Nadene, Robert grew up with a strong work ethic, a quick smile, and a heart open to everyone he met. From a young age, he believed in the power of hard work, kindness, and community – values that would guide him throughout his life.

A true entrepreneur at heart, Robert built and ran several successful companies over the years. His business ventures were not only a reflection of his ambition but of his desire to create opportunities for others. He treated every employee, client, and colleague with fairness and respect, and many who worked alongside him became lifelong friends.

But more than his career accomplishments, Robert was most proud of his family. He was a devoted husband to Jenifer for 52 wonderful years, a loving father to Elizabeth, Jonathan, and Daniel, and a proud grandfather to eight wonderful grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and his happiest moments were spend surrounded by them – whether sharing stories around the dinner table, cheering from the sidelines, or simply being together.

He is survived by his wife Jenifer Weerts, children Elizabeth (John) Schavey, Jonathan (Carol) Weerts, Taylor (Daniel) Weerts, his siblings Michael (Patricia) Weerts of Charlestown, Indiana, Barbara (Chuck) King of Tucson, Ariz., his grandchildren Luke (Jessica), Joseph, Adam, Donavan, Gabriela, Rhionna, William, and Amelia. He was preceded in death by his son Daniel (Taylor) Weerts, parents Nadene and Donavon Weerts, and in-laws Donavon and Lavon Wendt.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, at the old Winnebago High School. Friends and loved ones are invited to join in remembering the remarkable man who made the world a better place just by being in it. A private family burial will be held following the service at Rosehill Cemetery in Winnebago. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the old Winnebago High School. The family is asking for people to bring a written memory of Bob to share with the family to the visitation and service and if you are unable to attend to please share with the family as a special book will be made.
