Harriet Lavon Brown

FAIRMONT — On Sept. 1, 2025, Harriet Lavon Brown took her final breath, in the hospital at Mankato, at the age of 93. Her memorial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Cards of sympathy may be sent to 122 Woodland Avenue in Fairmont (56031).
Harriet was born on June 15, 1932, in Emmet County, Iowa, to Edward and Elizabeth Reinhardt. In 1949, she married James L. Brown. They eventually moved to Beloit, Wis., for 14 years before moving back to Iowa in 1967, first living near Gruver and later in Estherville and Fairmont. The couple ran the Way Out Western store in Fairmont for many years before retiring. They shared over 68 years together before James passed away in 2018.
Harriet cared for the home and took pleasure spending time with grandchildren, gardening, reading, and playing cards. She enjoyed watching basketball and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings.
Harriet is survived by her daughters, Janet Brown and Linda (John) Lloyd; grandchildren, Steven Brown, Brandon Flygare, Garth (Kristi) Flygare, Alyssa Lloyd, and Shanice Lloyd; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Zander, and Willow Brown and Devnet and Soren Flygare; and sister, Elizabeth Harris.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children, Diana Flygare, Steven Brown, and Sandra Brown; brothers, Kenneth and Edward Reinhardt; and sisters, Ruth Klingbeil, Kathryn Weber, Ivadel Eick, and Charlene Niffenegger.
