Larry Charles Hill, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, left behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and quiet strength. Born in Canton, S.D. to Gladys (Knutson) and Charles N. Hill, Larry spent his early years rooted in the community that shaped him.

A proud graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1961, Larry earned his degree in Applied Science from the University of South Dakota in 1965. That same year, he moved to Fairmont, Minnesota, where he began his lifelong career at 3 M. Over 40 years, he served as an Industrial Engineer, Process Engineer, and Quality Supervisor–roles in which his dedication and integrity left a lasting mark on colleagues and the company alike.

On Aug. 17, 1974, Larry married the love of his life, Yong K. (Chang) Hill. Together, they built a home filled with love, unwavering commitment to family, and steadfast support. Larry was a devoted husband and partner–always present, always uplifting, always quietly leading by example. As a father to John and Diane, he was their biggest fan and a constant source of support. Whether perched in the bleachers with his camcorder or offering a quiet word of reassurance, Larry never missed a moment.

Larry enjoyed playing cards with his family, reading books, and following his grandchildren’s activities, especially their sports, which brought him great joy. He had a deep and abiding interest in learning, particularly in the science and processes of the human body. In recent years, he spent time studying cancer, drawn by a genuine desire to understand and explore the complexities of human health. His curiosity reflected his thoughtful nature–always seeking to understand, never content with surface answers.

Larry was known for his extraordinary patience and gentle spirit. He never raised his voice, never let frustration take hold, and always met others with kindness. As his high school yearbook once perfectly captured: “Likes people, and people like him.” That simple phrase remained true throughout his life.

After retiring in Aug. 2005, Larry spent his time traveling across the U.S. with Yong and the Top of the Hill Club, and in 2014, fulfilling a dream trip to Korea with his family.

Larry is lovingly remembered by his son, John (Jamie) Hill; his daughter, Diane (Cameron) Serk; and his cherished grandchildren: Mason and Lauren Hill, Harrison and Parker Serk. He is also survived by his sister, DeAnn Belcher of Chandler, Ariz., whom he adored as a loving big brother, and by his nephew Robbie Belcher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Charles Hill.

Larry’s life was a testament to quiet dedication, deep love, and the joy of family. May his memory continue to inspire kindness and grace in all who knew him.
