Carole Jean Lohmann was born on June 22, 1942, at Baily Hospital in Fairmont, Minn., to Theodore and Zelda Lohmann. She was baptized on July 5, 1942, at St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop, where she later attended St. James Lutheran School. She graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1960. During her senior year, she joined the Minnesota Diversified Vocations Club and trained at Fairmont Community Hospital.
Carole pursued her calling in nursing, graduating from Naeve Hospital School of Nursing in 1963 and earning her RN license. She began her career at Naeve Hospital, working in the ER and serving as OR Supervisor until 1970, when she enrolled at St. Luke’s Hospital School of Anesthesia in Fargo. She graduated in 1972 as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and joined Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato.
In 1975, Carole became a member of Mankato Anesthesia Associates, serving at several area hospitals. From 1985 to 1991, she was Department Head at Fairmont Community Hospital before returning to Mankato, where she worked until her retirement in 2004. She later earned a Certificate in Parish Nursing from Gustavus College in St. Peter. Her spirit of service extended to volunteering with the Red Cross, where she played a key role in reorganizing the blood drive at Martin Luther High School.
Carole’s interests were many. She enjoyed playing the piano, knitting, sewing–creating everything from everyday items to her niece’s wedding gown and bridesmaids’ dresses–and gardening. A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, she served for many years as Mission Treasurer. After moving to Fairmont in 2019, she found joy in quilting with the ladies of Immanuel Lutheran Church and playing cards with fellow condo residents.
Family was central to Carole’s life. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Schultze of Northrop, Tim (Jacky Ford) Schultze of Sauk Rapids, Jon (Megan Schwab) Schultze of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Barb Lohmann of Plymouth, Ben (Amanda) Lohmann of Montrose, Tina (Peregrine Andrews) Lohmann of London, UK; several cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.
