Sandra Kurseth

HUNTLEY — Family and friends invite you to a Celebration of Life visitation for Sandra Kurseth, 64, from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Refreshments will be served. Sandy passed away battling cancer at her Huntley farm on Aug. 7, 2025. Lakeview Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Sandra Kay (Helland) Kurseth was born to Helen Ford Helland and Leo Helland in Winnebago, Minn., on Dec. 24, 1960, and lived her entire life in the area and on the farms where she grew up. She was a 1979 graduate of Granada-Huntley High School and a 1980 graduate of Hairdressers Cosmetology School in Fairmont. After several years in the workforce at Janzen’s Greenhouse, Super 8 Motel, and managing Fairmont’s Kerr-McGee station, in 1985 she found her calling as a direct support professional at REM, where she spent 40 years serving, uplifting, and fiercely advocating for her clients living with disabilities.

With an intense concern for all natural creatures, Sandy pursued a lifelong passion for animals by raising or rescuing almost countless dogs, horses, cats, chickens, and more. Special status were her latest beloved westies: Scout and Bridget.

Sandy is deeply mourned by her loving life partner of 20-plus years, Mark King; brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Sheila Helland of rural Guckeen; and sister and brother-in-law Gail Helland and Helmut Pfurtscheller of Minneapolis. With great sadness, she also leaves behind beloved nephews and spouses Josh and Jolene Hanson of Mankato and Charles and Courtney Hanson of Dallas, Texas, along with many dear cousins and devoted, loyal friends.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Helen.
