Troy Alan Benschoter

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. Formerly FAIRMONT — Troy Alan Benschoter, beloved son, brother, husband, and friend, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at his home in San Francisco, Calif., surrounded by love.

Born in Fairmont, Minn., Troy was the son of Neil Benschoter and Peggy (Neusch) Kolda. He spent his childhood in Fairmont and proudly graduated as a Fairmont Cardinal in the Class of 1984. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served overseas with honor until his discharge.

Following his service, Troy pursued higher education at the University of Iowa, studying chemical engineering. His career took him to California, where he worked for Wells Fargo Bank, rising through the ranks to become Senior Vice President out of San Francisco. His 25-year career in the financial services industry was marked by unwavering integrity, strong leadership and a genuine commitment to client success.

Troy’s warmth and energy were infectious. If he wasn’t traveling for work or off on an adventure, you could find him at one of his properties, entertaining friends and family. He had a special gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel at home.

Troy was united in marriage to his husband, Dennis, on Oct. 7, 2023. The two had a deep bond and shared a life full of love and laughter.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy, and his brothers, Todd and Jamie, as well as his grandparents. He is survived by his loving husband, Dennis of Palm Springs; his father, Neil (Sue) Benschoter of Fairmont; brother Brian (Tanya) Benschoter and daughters Katelyn and Ashley of Rochester, Minn.; sister Trisha (Mike) Odenbrett and children Zach (Sydney), Zakiah, Colin, and Addi of Primghar, Iowa; nephews Tyler and Cody (Olivia) Benschoter; great-niece Mabel; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were held in Calif., and Troy will be laid to rest in his hometown of Fairmont, Minn., at a later date

Troy, you were so deeply loved. Your kind heart, bright spirit, and the joy you brought to those around you will never be forgotten. You will be missed always.
