Mary Ann DeBus

WELCOME– Mary Ann (Torgerson) DeBus, 91, of Welcome, Minn, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minnesota.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Mary Ann at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11th, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, (204 2nd St, Welcome, MN 56181) with Pastor Kelly France officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The service will be recorded and available on Mary Ann’s obituary page.
Mary Ann will be buried at Welcome City Cemetery next to her husband, Lowell.
Mary Ann (Torgerson) DeBus, daughter of Carl and Dena (Amundson) Torgerson, was born May 2, 1934, in Alba Township, Jackson County. She graduated from Brewster High School and continued her education at Mankato Teachers College, where she earned her degree in elementary and special education. Mary Ann shared her gifts as a teacher at Welcome Elementary and later taught special education at both Lincoln Elementary and Fairmont Middle School, where her compassion and dedication made a lasting impact.
On January 2, 1971, she married Lowell DeBus at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster. A devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, Mary Ann was active in the altar guild, Eunice Circle, choir, and enjoyed teaching Bible school. She was also a proud member of the Brewster Legion Auxiliary and the Welcome Cemetery Society.
Mary Ann is survived by her son, Jason; grandchildren, Jacob (Katie), Jayden (fiancé, Jordan), and Jillian (fiancé, Gio); grandson, Oliver; sister-in-law Marsha DeBus; brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” (Marlys) Traetow; cousins, Gary (Margaret) Koder, Karen Hanson, Kaye Boesel, and Ricky (Mary) Horkey; godchildren, Jenny Miller, Nancy Crawley, Garry Schmidt, and Roger Richter; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Lowell who passed away in 1997; infant daughter, Susan; parents, Carl and Dena; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Anita DeBus; sisters-in-law, Colleen Traetow, Phyliss DeBus, Maxine Schuler; brothers-in-law, Don (Betty) Debus, Dwaine DeBus, Jerome DeBus, Eugene DeBus, and Richard DeBus; cousins-in-law, Andrew Boesel and Gary Hanson; and other relatives and friends.
