Visitation will be two hours prior to the time of service, from 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Roger went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at his home in Fairmont. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Joyce (Poulson), with whom he shared nearly 59 years of beautiful marriage. Lakeview Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Born on June 7, 1946, to Ernest and Hilda (Laue) Moeller, Roger was raised on the family farm in Fairmont, Minn., where he cultivated a deep love for the land that would last a lifetime. He called the farm home his entire life. For four years, he served in the U.S. Navy, earning the rank of Yeoman Second Class at the Newport Rhode Island Naval Station. Roger and Joyce enjoyed their time on the East Coast before he was honorably discharged in 1969. Roger’s quiet demeanor belied a deep sense of pride in his service to the U.S. Navy. Though he was humble about his military experience, it was a significant part of what shaped his life.
The couple met in high school and quickly became inseparable, a testament to their love. They shared a deep faith in their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They enjoyed being a part of church groups, traveling around the world, and wintering in Florida together. The couple had joyfully raised their two daughters, Brenda and Cheryl, instilling values of kindness, faith, and community. He cherished his relationships with sons-in-law Chris Carstensen and Troy Shumski, and four beloved grandchildren who he treasured moments with – taking them on lawn mower rides, sneaking treats, and telling captivating stories.
Roger was a dedicated farmer for the majority of his life, managing an operation that included corn, soybeans, and a variety of livestock, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to his craft. He also developed a passion for technology and sound, making significant contributions to his community by modifying sound systems in several local churches and volunteering around the area for various events.
Remembered as a loving family man, Roger’s legacy of kindness, dedication as a disciple of Jesus, and witty humor will continue to inspire those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
Carrying his memory in their hearts are daughter Brenda and Chris Carstensen of Fairmont, Minn.; daughter Cheryl and Troy Shumski of Mankato, Minn.; grandchildren Andrea Carstensen and finance Jordan Spilde of Sioux Falls, S.D., Adam Carstensen of Fairmont, Minn., Garrett and Kjerstin Shumski of San Antonio, Texas and Tanner Shumski of Mankato, Minn.; as well as his brother Gerald (and Marlene) Moeller and several nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; parents Ernest & Hilda Moeller; and his in-laws Floyd and Sylvia Poulson; and infant brother.
