Alice M. Malliette

FAIRMONT — Services for Alice M. Malliette, 94, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Fairmont. Alice passed away surrounded by her family on Friday afternoon, May 16, 2025, at Ingleside Memory Care in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Alice Mary Malliette was born on Aug. 14, 1930, to Nick and Viola (Hansgaard) Malliet. She was one of six siblings and attended Amber Lake School for eight years and Fairmont High School, graduating in 1948. Alice was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

After graduation, Alice worked as a dental assistant to Dr. R.H. Zierke for two years until she contracted polio in 1950. She was at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester until 1951.

Alice then moved to Ariz., where she met her husband, Charles “Chuck” Smith. They lived in Hood River, Ore., where they raised their four children.

Alice was an accomplished artist and had a studio and gallery (Paintin’ Place) for 30 years. Many of her paintings were of beautiful Mt. Hood, which she could view from her kitchen window.

Alice later married Ronald Strom and lived in Wis., Texas, and Minn. She was an avid collector and loved antiquing and going to garage sales – she had 42 of her own.

Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ron Strom; daughters, Kelly (Larry) Bowe, and Sara (James) Elliott; sons, Jim Smith, and Scott Smith; grandchildren, Kevin Smith, Tim Smith, Taylor Gray, Tanner Gray, and Spencer Gray; great grandson, June Smith; sister, Marilyn Malliet; and many nieces and nephews.
