Duane A. Danner

FAIRMONT — Funeral Service for Duane A. Danner, 75, of Fairmont will be 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont with military honors provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Duane passed away peacefully on Friday evening, Nov. 1, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Duane Arthur Danner was born on June 27, 1949, in Fairmont, Minn. He was the son of Arthur and Dorothy (Korlin) Danner. Duane attended Fairmont and Truman public schools and graduated from Truman High School. Duane furthered his education at Jackson Votech where he earned a degree in computer programming.

On May 21, 1968, Duane enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served in Admin as an Employment Interviewer. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and Cross of Gallantry (w/ palm) before earning his honorable discharge on May 14, 1971.

On Feb. 25, 1972, Duane was united in marriage to Martha Olson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. This union was blessed with six children, Wendy, Christy, Jason, Erin, Eric, and Jennifer. Duane and Martha shared over fifty-two years together. The family resided in Fairmont where Duane worked as a computer programmer at Avery Weigh-Tronix for over twenty-five years. Duane and Martha then moved to Peoria, Ariz., in 2002, where Duane was active with Apostles Lutheran Church. He served as a Deacon, Elder, Church Board member, including President and Treasurer, as well as helping at the church in any way he was able. He continued his service to others by delivering communion, working with LCMS, and supporting the homeless.

Duane also found joy by serving fellow veterans as an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2135 in Peoria. He was a recent Past Commander and was member of the Marine Corp League. Duane also served on the Veterans Memorial Board in Peoria and was a member of the American Legion Post 62 and the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Martha Danner of Fairmont, Minn.; children, Wendy Danner of Chaska, Minn., Christy Danner of Fairmont, Minn., Jason (Alyssa) Danner, of Fairmont, Eric (friend, Stacie) Danner of Pendelton, Oreg., Erin (Dave) Roiger of Winnebago, Minn., and Jennifer (Lee) Hummel of Fairmont, Minn.; grandchildren, Emily Danner of Mankato, Minn., Annabelle Danner of Chaska, Minn., Dawson (Jessica) Danner of Mankato, Minn., Savana (boyfriend, Patrick Richmire) Gwilliam of Buckeye, Ariz., Tyler Gwilliam of Buckeye, Ariz., Kyla Roiger of Winnebago, Minn., Grace Danner, Tessa Danner, Brett Danner, Christian Danner, Charlotte Hummel, and Lydia Hummel, all of Fairmont, Minn., and Dylan Danner of Buckeye, Ariz.; great granddaughter, Eme’Lynn Ray Nelson of Mankato, Minn.; siblings, Terri Ehlert of Welcome, Minn., and Fred (Betty) Danner of Estherville, Iowa; brother-in-law, Butch (Diane) Olson of Fairmont, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Pam Abelson, and Connie Danner, both of Fairmont, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents Arthur and Dorothy Danner, Duane was also preceded in death by his grandparents; brother, Robert Danner; sister, JoAnn Stewart; brothers-in-law, Bill Stewart, Dave Schaffer, and Rodney Ehlert; and parents-in-law, Lowell and Norma Olson.
