David T. Lohmann
PLYMOUTH — David Theodore Lohmann, 74, passed away at home surrounded by family on Oct. 14, in Plymouth, Minn, after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in July 2024. Born on May 10, 1950, in Fairmont, Minn, David grew up in Northrop, Minn where he attended St. James Lutheran School before moving on to Fairmont High School. It was there that he formed life-long friendships and met his future wife, Barb (Betts). After graduating from high school in 1968, he continued his studies at Mankato State University, graduating in 1972. He then took over his father Ted’s plumbing business for 16 years, also acting as Fire Chief and City Councilman for Northrop. After relocating to Long Lake, Minn in 1988, David joined Roto Rooter where he worked for 25 years.
David was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Choir and Handbell Choir for many years during which time he embarked on several European tours playing concerts in five countries. His curiosity, tolerance, and kindness towards everyone he met expanded his collection of friends around the world. His obsession for Bob Dylan made him a regular pilgrim to the easier-reached Hibbing and Duluth.
David loved his daily fix of Jeopardy. He also loved fishing, enjoying the time on the lake as much as the catch. And he loved jokes, most often inappropriate ones. But for so many, David was the can-do guy with a solution to any problem, plumbing-related or not, lending a hand without hesitation. Many benefitted from his gentle reassurance, knowledge, and his readiness to help.
David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barb; his children, Ben (Amanda) of Montrose, Minn, and Tina (Peregrine Andrews) of London, United Kingdom; grandchildren, Theodore, Zachary, and Abigail Lohmann; sisters, DeAnne Novotny, Carole Lohmann and Barb Schultze and many cherished friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Zelda Lohmann.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Lake, Minn on at 11:00 am Nov. 2, with visitation from 9:30 am to 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Trinity Music Program (checks can be made out to Trinity Music Program and mailed to 2060 County Road 6, Long Lake, Minn 55356) or the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum online.
