Sharon L. Bassett
FAIRMONT — Memorial Service for Sharon L. Bassett, 85, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont with interment in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Those wishing to view a live stream of the service may do so at www.splfairmont.org Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Bassett passed away on Sunday evening, Oct. 6, at the Oak Lawn Nursing Home in Mankato, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bassett was born on May 3, 1939, in Fairmont, Minn. Her parents were Irvin and Helen (Theobald) Haertel.
On Oct. 11, 1958, Bassett was united in marriage to Dean G. Bassett in South Dakota. The couple resided in Fairmont. This union was blessed with four children, Brian, Allan, Lisa, and Mark. Dean and Bassett shared over 65 years together.
Bassett was a homemaker for most of her life and later worked at Stokely Van Camp and Fairmont Foods to stay busy. She was a past member of the Fairmont Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary serving for 20 years. She was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Bassett was a dedicated and loving mom to all her children, raising all four of them to go on to accomplish great things. She loved her grandchildren! She loved to watch and care for them, take them shopping, and loved to bake with them. Family came first and was above all else to Bassett a value she instilled in all those around her.
Bassett enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends and loved her word search puzzles.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Brian (Ann) Bassett of Arlington, Texas, Allan Bassett of Fairmont, Minn., Lisa (Joe) Stackhouse of Blaine, Minn., and Mark Bassett of Fairmont, Minn.; grandchildren, Brandon Bassett of Buffalo Center, IA., Tyson Bassett of Fairmont, Minn., Jackson Bassett of Dolliver, Iowa, and Jenna (Mark) Lettow of Iowa Falls, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Layden and Bailee Bassett of Elmore, Minn. and Henrik and George of Iowa Falls, IA; Hailee Bassett of Buffalo Center, IA; two sisters, Patricia Maschoff of Fairmont, Minn., Bobbie Atzenhoefer (Kenneth) of Fairmont, Minn., other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Dean, whom she cherished deeply and spoke of often. Along with her parents, Irvin and Helen (Theobald) Haertel, Bassett was preceded in death by her sisters; Joyce Manninen and Kathryn “Kathy” L. Schultz.
Memorials are preferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, organizations that are close to Bassett’s heart.
