Peggy Rae Silker Saatzer
BRAINERD — Peggy Rae Silker Saatzer, 79, of Brainerd, Minn. passed away peacefully in her home on Oct. 5, after a valiant fight this past year with cancer. A Memorial Service for Peggy will be on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Baxter, Minn., with a dinner served after the service at the church. Visitation will be at the church before the service from 3:15 – 4:00 pm. Internment will be in Fairmont, Minn. on Wednesday, Oct. 16th at Lakeside Cemetery at the mausoleum. Family and friends are welcome to join the brief service. Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Peggy Rae Silker Saatzer was born on Jan. 20, 1945, in Fairmont, Minn., the daughter of Lloyd and Esther (Funderburk) Huffman. Peggy graduated from Fairmont High School in 1963. Peggy was united in marriage to John (Jack) Silker on Oct. 17, 1964. Together, Jack and Peggy raised seven kids. Jack and Peggy owned the Coast-to-Coast store in Fairmont and the Midwest Sports Center for many years. Jack and Peggy moved to Brainerd in 1978 and during this time, they owned Caribou Lodge in Canada for a few years during the summer months. Jack and Peggy moved to Merrifield for 18 years, where they owned Silker Sportswear. Peggy had many talents which included sewing dog clothes, applique sweatshirts, crocheting, cooking and baking, and many other crafts as well. Her love for animals, especially her dogs, was evident in her support of the local humane society. Nothing was more important to her than her grandkids, great-grandkids, and newest great, great-grandson. Peggy also shared a special bond with her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glen and Sue. The adventures, laughs, and memories they shared are priceless. Peggy had such a zest for life. The memories we have all had with her through the years will be cherished forever.
Peggy married Roger Saatzer on Oct. 15, 2022. Together they enjoyed traveling and spending time at their Florida Condo. Roger’s musical talents brought both of them so much fun, laughter, and joy. Roger’s family became very important to Peggy. They all shared such a bond of love, faith, and laughter. The love Roger and Peggy shared was very special. We will all miss her Facebook posts of her life. It brought smiles to all our faces. The memories Peggy gave us will forever be cherished.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband; Roger Saatzer, her children; Teresa (Rick) Straton, Susie (Jamie) Smith, Jeff (Karen) Silker, Neil (Sue) Silker, Kathy (Randy) Strauser, Mike Silker, and Chad (Jamie) Silker, sisters; Bonnie Walser, Nancy Lobb, and Wendy (Dallas) Becker, brother; Bryan Huffman, brother-in-law; Glen (Sue) Silker, and sister-in-law; Joyce Gilbertson, 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and one great, great-grandchild, her step-children; Todd Saatzer and Jodi (Albie) Kuschel, four step-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Peggy is preceded in death by her husband; John (Jack) Silker, her parents; Lloyd and Esther Huffman, her brothers; Larry Huffman, and Perry Huffman, her brothers-in-law; Duane Walser and Dick Lobb, and her step-grandson; Derrik Kuschel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Baptist Church in Baxter and the Martin County Humane Society in Fairmont, Minn.
