Myrtle Louise (Probst) Heifner was born June 29, 1931, to Fred and Bertha (Toedt) Probst. She attended country school in State Center, Iowa; Van Cleve Consolidated Schools in Dolliver, Iowa, and graduated from Fairmont Senior High School.
Myrtle started working for the telephone company in Fairmont soon after graduating and worked there for 40 years. After the phone company closed Myrtle worked at Fairmont Foods and St. James Foods before retiring.
On April 27, 1999, Myrtle was united in marriage to Jerald Heifner in Fairmont, Minn. After their marriage, Myrtle and Jerald lived in Fairmont where Myrtle was involved in many, many activities. A few of the activities included: Decorating her home for all occasions, The City of Lakes Garden Club, and her church and helping the pastor serve communion to residents at the nursing home; the Martin County Fair helping them with flower arrangements and judging entries; the hospital delivering mail to the patients. In Nov. 2019, Myrtle had a stroke which limited her ability to do many of the things she enjoyed. In 2021, Jerald passed away from COVID complications and Myrtle entered Vista Prairie/Goldfinch and lived there until her passing.
Myrtle enjoyed gardening, reading, watching Hallmark movies, golf, the Kentucky Derby and Westerns. Also spending time in the kitchen making angel food cakes and casseroles to share with friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three step-children, Donna (Tim) Handeland, Jerry (Janet) Heifner, and Lori (Dave) Wilson. Six step-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerald; brother, Wilmer, and stepson, Larry Heifner.
A special thank you to Vista Prairie/Goldfinch and UHD Hospice for all the special care to Myrtle.
