FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Rodney G. Malo, 90, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Sept. 30, at the church. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont, Minn. Rodney passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minn.
Rodney Gene Malo was born April 27, 1934, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Ervin and Malinda (Wolter) Malo. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1952. Rodney served in the U.S. Army from February 1957 to February 1959. Following his time in the service, he moved to California where he worked as a groundskeeper and handyman. During that time, he also owned and operated a tavern in Tustin, Calif. For 15 years leading up to his retirement, he worked for a pet supply company in Westminster, Calif. Upon retirement, he returned to Fairmont where he enjoyed gardening, spending time on the family farm, and watching sports. He was an active member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, a member of Senior Friends, 50 plus group, and enjoyed working at the Martin County Fair Food Stand.
Rodney is survived by his nephew, Todd Malo (Kari); nephew-in-law, Gregory Murphy (Dixie); great-nieces, Alissa Henry (Awbre), Meghan Murphy and Jessica Stensland; great-nephew, Markus Murphy (Keri); sister-in-law, Georgia Malo; three great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Malinda Malo; brothers, Richard Malo and Mervin Malo; nieces, Debra Murphy, Jacqueline Thiesse and Cinda Susan Malo; sisters-in-law, Bryce Malo and Barbara Malo, and great-nephew, Tyler Stensland.
