Arlan G. Reiter

FAIRMONT — Funeral Service for Arlan G. Reiter, 88, of Fairmont, Minn., will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont with military honors provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Visitation will be noon to 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the church.

Arlan passed away on Saturday evening, Sept. 14, at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Arlan George Reiter was born on June 12, 1936, on a farm west of Truman, Minn. He was the son of George and Marie (Vogt) Reiter. Arlan was baptized as an infant on June 28, 1936, and later was confirmed in his youth on April 2, 1950, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Truman. He attended a rural country school southwest of Truman for eight years. He later attended Truman High School and graduated in 1954.

On Feb. 5, 1957, Arlan enlisted in the Army and was stationed at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. He earned his honorable discharge on Feb. 4, 1959.

Arlan was united in marriage to Sharon Rhoda on Oct. 19, 1957, at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, Minn. Arlan worked for 32 years at Fairmont Railway Motors until his retirement in 1993, and he lived in Fairmont his entire life.

Arlan was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont where he was on the Board of Trustees as well as the St. Paul Lutheran School Board. During his free time, Arlan enjoyed wood carving working in the yard, and tending to his garden. The most important things to Arlan were his family and his church family.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon Reiter of Fairmont, Minn; daughters Stephanie (Doug) Sparks of Albia, Iowa, and Pamela (Mike) Johnson of Atwater, Cali; grandchildren, Brittany (Cody) Flattery of Carslie, Iowa, Mitchel Sparks of Albia, Iowa, Brooke (Wyatt) McCarty of Albia, Iowa, and Nicholas Johnson of Atwater, Cali; great-grandchildren, Cora Flattery, Leo Flattery, and Chet McCarty; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Barb and Roger Weise of Spring Valley, Minn, Vince and Armon Ross of Eden Prairie, Minn, Bruce and Judy Rhoda of Hutchinson, Minn, and Susan Michaelson of Bradenton, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents George and Marie Reiter, Arlan was preceded in death by his sister, Leila (Victor) Altenburg; brother in infancy, Veron Reiter; brother-in-law, Dean Michaelson; and nephew, Dale Altenburg.

Memorials are preferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Mayo Hospice.
