Donald E. Sankey
ST. CLOUD — Donald “Don” E. Sankey died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Sauk Rapids, Minn. A celebration of life to honor Don will be held at a later date.
Donald Everett Sankey was born Aug. 27, 1938, in Fairmont, Minn., to Lloyd and Sylvia (Heiser) Sankey. Don graduated from Fairmont High School in 1956. After he graduated high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1963.
He went on to continue his education to graduate from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. with a BA degree in 1966; University of Minnesota with a MA in Educational Psychology in 1968; and Hamline University with a Masters Degree in Public Administration in 1993.
On Dec. 17, 1966, Don was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Eunice. They adopted their son, Woody in 1976. Their daughter, Cindy was born in 1977.
Don and his family attended Hope Covenant Church in St. Cloud, Minn. for 29 years. In more recent years, Don and Eunice attended Jubilee Worship Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
Don retired from Bankers Systems (Wolters Kluwer) in 2007. Don was a long-time member of Civil Air Patrol in Fairmont, Minn.; Twin Cities, Minn.; and Chicago, Ill. He was also a member of Civil Defense, Jaycees, St. Cloud Area Genealogists and served on several Cursillo teams.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Sylvia Sankey; and brother-in-law, Willard Biddle.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eunice; sister, Donna (Sankey) Biddle of Langley, BC, Canada; brother-in-law, Roger (Jennifer) Kvaale of Gully, Minn.; his son, Woody (Holly) Sankey of St. Cloud, Minn.; his daughter, Cindy Dahl of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; grandchildren, Natasha Sankey, Jordan Sankey, Trevor Sankey and Derek Rod; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Victoria and Lanayah; nephews, Jay Biddle and Ed Kvaale; and niece, Susan (Kvaale) Thompson and their families.
