Dorene Madsen

FAIRMONT — Dorene Madsen passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa, at 97 years of age, just one day prior to her 98th birthday. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at the East Chain Evangelical Free Church with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the East Chain Evangelical Free Church. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Dorene Lucille (Turnberg) Madsen was born Aug. 26, 1926, in East Chain Township, the daughter of Elmer and Lucille (Elofson) Turnberg. Dorene attended school in East Chain and graduated in 1944. Following graduation Dorene attended Minneapolis School of Business and then returned to Fairmont where she was employed by Railway Motors.

On Sept. 6, 1947, Dorene was united in marriage to Maynard Madsen at the East Chain Evangelical Free Church. They spent 67 years together. Together they made their home on a farm near East Chain. They were blessed with 3 daughters: Patricia, Diane and Kimberly. They ultimately moved to Silver Lake Township, where they bought the farm known as Anderson Oaks on the state line. They retired in 1984 and moved to Fairmont. Winters were spent in Cocoa Beach, Fla., where they made many wonderful friends. Dorene was a faithful member of the East Chain Evangelical Free Church serving her Lord and Savior. She loved music and served as pianist for many years and directed the choir. She was also involved with Women’s Ministries and helped with the church youth program. Dorene also was active in the Christian Women’s Club in Fairmont. Her favorite Bible passage was Psalms 121.

Her hobbies included decorating Maynard’s wood crafts, painting kitchen towels and doing floral arrangements. Dorene also loved cooking and entertaining family and friends.

Left to cherish her memories are daughters, Patricia (Gene) Hugoson, Diane (Marlyn) Teeter and Kimberly (Bryan) Brockmann; grandchildren, Jonathan (Jamie) Hugoson; Michael (Alicia) Teeter, Jeremy (Kelly) Teeter; Scott (Shauna) Brockmann, Andrea (Jeff) Wigfield, Amy (Nate) Truman; 17 great-grandchildren, Leighton, Oakley, Henry, Zoe Hugoson; Sammy Teeter; Shayden and Brody Teeter; Jack, Ben, Sam Brockmann; Carter, Brock, Ian, Cullen Wigfield; Peyton, Easton, Katelyn Truman; sister, Ardys Bloom; in-laws, Arnold (Donna) Madsen, Carol (Kermit) Heide; many nieces and nephews.

Dorene was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; parents, Elmer and Lucille Turnberg; parents-in-law, Andrew and Esther Madsen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob Peterson, Clarence Bloom, LaVerne and Arlene Schultz, Harvey and Nancy Madsen; nephew, Duane Madsen; and niece, Lisa Madsen.
