Ronald J. Hegerle
FAIRMONT — A memorial service for Ronald J. Hegerle, age 87, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Fairmont with military honors provided by Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Inurnment will be in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Ronald passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, at the Crest View Lutheran Home in Columbia Heights, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ronald James Hegerle was born March 6, 1937, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Alfred and Theo (Eckman) Hegerle. Ron graduated from Fairmont High School in 1955.
After high school, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 13, 1955. He served aboard the Destroyer Tender, USS Frontier, home ported out of Long Beach, Calif. After two tours in the Western Pacific, Ron earned an honorable discharge on June 12, 1959.
On June 1, 1957, Ron was united in marriage to Wanda Weidenbach at St. John’s Evangelical and Reform Church in Fairmont. After getting married, the couple resided in Long Beach, Calif., before returning home to Fairmont. This union was blessed with a son, Rod.
Ron was the owner and operator of Ron’s Add-N-Type for the sales and service of office machines. After selling the business, he became the manager of Summit Vue Apartments. Ron was a 62-year member of the Fairmont City Band where he served as the group’s president, was a past member of the Martin County Conservation Club and was a forty-five year member of the Fairmont Rotary Club. During his tenure in the Rotary Club, Ron achieved perfect attendance. If he was unable to make the local meeting, he would attend a meeting in a neighboring community to maintain his spotless record.
During his free time, Ron enjoyed many years of duck and pheasant hunting. He also loved watching college and professional football, and he never got tired of listening to big band music. He most loved the time that he was able to spend with his family.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Wanda Hegerle; son, Rod Hegerle and his wife, Becky; grandson, Jason Hegerle and his wife, Arianna; granddaughter, Rachel Stein and her husband, Tony; and great-granddaughter, Harper Stein.
Along with his parents, Alfred and Theo Hegerle, Ron was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Bill Bundy. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
