Larry Owen
WINNEBAGO — Larry Owen, age 92, of Winnebago, Minn., passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 17, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont, Minn. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, at Spencer Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago, Minn. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at Foundations Bible Church (formerly First Baptist Church) in Winnebago, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Winnebago. Spencer-Owen Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Larry was born Sept. 25, 1931, in Winnebago, Minn., to Glen and Ellen (Skarin) Owen. He attended Winnebago High School and was in the class of 1950. Larry enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in January 1951 and spent 3 years in England. He was discharged on Dec. 7, 1953. On June 4, 1955, Larry married MaryAnn Ehret. Larry and MaryAnn made their home in Winnebago, Minn. Larry worked as a brick tender right out of the service, then Larry worked as a carpenter, plasterer and cabinet maker for over 50 years. During that time, they were blessed with three children, Lori, Terri and Tom. Larry enjoyed all sports and attended many sporting events that his nephews, children and grandkids were in. He loved his hamburgers and malts.
Larry is survived by daughter, Lori (Brian) Slama of Winnebago; daughter, Terri (Randy) Hoppe of Le Sueur; son, Tom (Karla) Owen of Winnebago; grandchildren, Timothy (Meaghan) Slama, Amy Slama, Emily (Tanner) Nepp, Ellen (Curtis) Roiger, Owen (Heather) Poole, Jordan Hoppe, Kathie (RJ) Linder, Bob (Karrie) Owen; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jeanne (Dick) Kortuem; brother-in-law, Larry (Kay) Ehret; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, MaryAnn on Sept. 13, 2022; and four brothers and their spouses, Bud (Doris) Owen, Tub (Deloris) Owen, Jerry (Ev) Owen and Cliff (Dagmer) Owen.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the doctors and nurses for their loving care and kindness given to Larry and his family.
