Visitation will be hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.

Roger passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Roger William Lueck was born Oct. 16, 1934, in Welcome, Minn., the son of Henry and Johanna (Lohse) Lueck. He received his education, attending school in Welcome and graduated from Welcome High School with the c lass of 1954. Roger excelled in many sports during high school career including basketball, football and baseball. In basketball Roger was the all-time leading scorer in Minnesota History with 1,731 points from 1953-1954. He was the leading career scorer among high school players from Martin and Faribault counties for more than four decades until the record was broken in 1998. His record is currently in 4th place.

In 1955, Roger was united in marriage to Arla Rae Seim in Welcome, Minn. That same year, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his county proudly while being stationed in Germany. In 1957, Roger received his honorable discharge and returned home to Welcome. Roger and Arla were blessed with six children, Debra, Daniel, Deanna, Douglas, Roger David, and Michael. They moved to Fairmont in 1961.

Following Arla’s passing in 1998, Roger was blessed to find love again when he met and later married Helen Koenecke on Oct. 16, 1999, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Minn. Roger worked for over 33 years at Fairmont Railway Motors, retiring in 1999. He was a past member of Grace Lutheran Church and current member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Fairmont. During his free time, Roger enjoyed time with his family, bowling, playing golf, going to the casinos and watching sports.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Helen Lueck; children, Debra Lueck and special friend, Jerry Laue of Fairmont, Dan (Rocci) Lueck of Stillwater, Minn., Deanna (Jack) Woodring of Fort Myers, Fla., Doug (Michele) Lueck of White Bear Lake, Minn., Roger David (Cheryl) Lueck of Las Vegas, Nev. and Mike (Nikki) Lueck of Apple Valley, Minn.; grandchildren, Jaclyn Lueck of Minneapolis, Minn., Matthew Lueck of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jacob (Meredith) Woodring of Denver, Colo., Sara Woodring of Newport Beach, Calif., Adam Van Iten (Brittany) of Rollingstone, Minn., Colton Lueck and Jared Lueck of White Bear Lake, Minn. and Audree and Alisha Lueck of Apple Valley, Minn.; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Van Riper and Mary Ann Wohlhuter; brother-in-law, Elmer Buhmann; sister-in-law, Arlene Lueck; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Vivian Traetow; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Johanna Lueck; first wife, Arla Rae Lueck; brothers, Jack (Verna) Lueck, Max Lueck, Robert Lueck, Jim Lueck, Dennis Lueck; sisters, Ella (Robert) Zehm and Judy Buhmann; brothers-in-law, James Wohlhuter and Marvin Van Riper; as well as several other family members. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
