Leon L. Kamrath

OWATONNA — Leon Leland Kamrath, 84, of Owatonna, Minn., died Friday, June 28, 2024, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minn. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Michaelson Funeral Home, with Pastor Amanda Floy officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Steele Center Cemetery, Somerset Township.

Leon was born Nov. 29, 1939, in Primghar, Iowa, the son of Harold and Ruth (Powers) Kamrath. Leon worked as a farm hand growing up before serving in the U.S. Army with the Military Police. Following his military service, he married Mabel Boettcher on March 14, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. The couple made their home in Owatonna and later on a farm near Meriden. Leon worked at Gandy Co. for many years. In retirement, he worked with his daughter for over 10 years providing daycare.

Leon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Steele County Mounted Posse and the Minnesota Sheriff’s Mounted Posse Association. Leon volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, as a youth sports coach, and with 4-H. He enjoyed square dancing and bowling. Throughout his years as a farm hand and living on his farm, he always had a special bond with horses and enjoyed showing horses and giving horse drawn wagon rides.

He is survived by his daughters, LeAnn (Robert) Doherty of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Lisa (Larry Behrens) Fisher of Fairmont, Laurel (Shannon) Wolesky of Rochester; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Myron (Brenda) Kamrath of Faribault; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers; and two sisters.
