David M. Silverthorn was born Sept. 20, 1951, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Earl E. and June E. (Hill) Silverthorn. David was both baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran in Fairmont and attended school in Fairmont graduating from Fairmont High School.
Feeling a sense of duty to his country, David enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 1, 1969, and served his country proudly for 4 years during the Vietnam War before being honorably discharged on Feb. 16, 1973. After returning home David attended college at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn. He spent many years working in sales and specifically enjoyed working in advertising.
David was passionate about sports and enjoyed watching them, especially baseball. He loved music and the excitement of attending a concert of one of his favorite musicians. David was known to be light on his feet and grinned with joy any time he had the opportunity to get out on the dance floor. He cherished time spent outdoors, sitting on the shores of area lakes in the warm summer breeze with a line in the water waiting patiently for the next bite. David was a member of AA and NA and took great pride in his sobriety and helping others by sharing his story. His quiet time was spent on his computer, playing casino games and he treasured hearing about his grandchildren and their sporting events.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Cara (Mason) Ellis of Boone, Iowa, Erin Silverthorn of Boone, Iowa; grandchildren, Dylan Bolton, Stella Bolton, Zackery Cole and Jocelyn Lewis; brother, Mark Silverthorn of McAlester, Okla.; sister, Kathy (Tom) Totzke of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; nephews, Sam Silverthorn, Joe Silverthorn and Tanner Looft; as well as many other extended family and friends.
