Devorah F. Schwieger

FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Devorah “Devy” F. Schwieger, age 93, longtime Fairmont resident, will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont, with interment in Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont. Those wishing to view a live stream of the service may do so at https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/1238592458. Visitation will be prior to the service from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.

Devorah went to her eternal home Tuesday afternoon, April 2, 2024, at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minn. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Devorah F. Schwieger was born July 11, 1930, the daughter of Carl and Frieda (Fritz) Thate. She was baptized on July 20, 1930, at St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church in Pleasant Prairie Township and attended Sunday School there and was confirmed on June 13, 1943. In her youth, Devy attended grade school in Silver Lake Township. She then attended Fairmont High School where she graduated in 1947. After graduation, she went to work at Singer Sewing Center in Fairmont. She also was an active member in 4H where she specialized in sewing.

On Sept. 24, 1950, Devy was united in marriage to Lynn Schwieger, son of Theodore and Lena Schwieger. Together they lived on the family farm and were blessed to have daughters, Dori Lynn and Krista Kay.

Devy was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served in many roles. She was a member of the church choir for many years, taught Sunday School, made banners and was a member of many various groups at Immanuel. Devy had many talents and enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking and decorating cakes, which she did as a living for a good portion of her life. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Dori Huemoeller and her husband, Jeff and Krista Schwieger and her special friend, Tom Eischens; grandchildren Tate Huemoeller, Josef Huemoeller and Alena Schwieger, sisters-in-law, Janice Thate, Dorothy Anderst, Eunice Day, Doris Schwieger, Marlene Griffith; brother-in-law, Dan Griffith, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Devy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Frieda Thate; husband, Lynn; sisters, Delores and Verdell; brothers, Vanner and Arvid; sisters-in-law, Luverna Hartmann, Mary Armbrust, Lois Swenson, Erline Schwieger, Marion Schwieger, Ruth Schwieger; brothers-in-law, Milton Schwieger, Delbert Schwieger, Gerald Schwieger, James Schwieger, Don Swenson, Wilbert Hartmann, Roland Anderst, Don Armbrust, Orland Day; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodore and Lena Schwieger and their infant children, Ruth and Roy.
