Guillermo passed away Saturday morning, March 30, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Guillermo Diaz was born Feb. 10, 1937, to Nabor and Francisca (Contreras) Diaz in Matehuala, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He attended school at Esc. Rural Juventino Rosas in Matehuala, San Luis Potosi.

Guillermo was united in marriage on September 22, 1957, to Francisca Castorena in Matehuala, San Luis Potosi. After their marriage they lived in Rancho Nuevo until 1980 when they moved to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon and in 1994 they moved with their family to the United States. In Mexico, Guillermo worked at a factory making carpet and then did security until he retired in 1994 when they moved to the United States.

Guillermo loved working in the fields when he lived in Michigan. He enjoyed watching wrestling, soccer and baseball on the TV. He could often be found helping his wife, Francisca around the house and cooking food. Family was the most important thing to Guillermo, and he cherished with them and having BBQ’s.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Francisca Diaz; seven children; 28 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nabor and Francisca Diaz; four children, Guillermo Diaz, Jr., Pedro Luis Diaz, Fernando Diaz and Pedro Diaz; and granddaughter, Ruby Alvarado.
