Bruce R. Grotte

FAIRMONT — A memorial service for Bruce R. Grotte, 69, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, with military honors provided by Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Inurnment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Bruce passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bruce Russell Grotte was born March 10, 1954, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Russell and Dorothy (Grill) Grotte. He attended school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1972.

On Oct. 13, 1972, Bruce enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, Calif., where he served on the USS Dubuque. In his time in the military, Bruce sailed to Puerto Rico, Japan and Saudi Arabia. On Aug. 23, 1975, Bruce was granted an early release to attend college and was transferred to the Naval Reserve. On Aug. 2, 1978, Bruce received his honorable discharge.

Bruce attended St. Cloud State University where he earned his business degree. Bruce was united in marriage to Luz Rosillo on Nov. 24, 1990, and later divorced. He made his home in San Marcos, Calif., Escondido, Calif., and following his retirement from Costco after 28 years of work, returned to Fairmont in 2020.

Bruce enjoyed spending time with his friends and he had an intoxicating smile. He enjoyed spending time golfing, fishing, going for walks with his dog and jogging. He was an avid bowler and was always trying for the perfect game. When not enjoying the outside, Bruce could be found watching one of his favorite shows, “CSI” or “Leave it to Beaver.”

Bruce will be remembered by his son, Andrew (Vicky) McKinley; daughter, Kayla Grotte; granddaughter, Adelyn Louise McKinley; sister, Peggy (Bruce) Wanta; two brothers, John (Amy) Grotte and Dave Grotte; Luz Rosillo; as well as many other extended family and friends.
