Arlys E. Malo

FAIRMONT — Funeral services for Arlys E. Malo, 91, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2024, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arlys passed away Friday evening, March 8, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Arlys E. Malo was born March 27, 1932, in Silver Lake Township, Minn., the tenth of eleven children of Louis and Sophie (Laue) Thiesse. She was baptized April 10, 1932, and later confirmed on March 25, 1945, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn. She attended school at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Wilbert.

On Oct. 24, 1952, Arlys was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Malo at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert. This union was blessed with two children, Mark and Susan. After their marriage, Kenneth and Arlys made their home on a farm in Frasier Township for six years before moving to a farm in Pleasant Prairie Township. Arlys helped around the farm and through the years worked for Mocols Grocery and Dorendorf Jewelry. In 1981, Kenneth and Arlys moved to West Salem, Wis., where Arlys worked for five years at the ASCS Office and 10 years at 1st National Bank in Bangor, Wis. After moving back from Wisconsin in 2001, Kenneth and Arlys made their home in Fairmont.

Arlys was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont and was involved in LWML, ladies aide, and while living in West Salem, she was the church choir director in a new church that Kenneth and Arlys helped build.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Mark (Karla) Malo; daughter, Susan (Kevin) Sukalski; grandchildren, Kristin (Josh) Engelmann, Miranda (Mark) Reiman, Lukus (Maggie) Malo and Alex (Jen) Sukalski; great-grandchildren, Carson, Brooklyn, Cassidy, Mckenna, Nora and Laney Reiman and Luther and Lucy Malo; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Thiesse, Lois Thiesse, Dorothy Malo and Beth Malo; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Sophie Thiesse; husband, Kenneth E. Malo; brothers, Melvin, Roland, Arthur, Velmer, Harland and Leo; sisters, Helen Milow, Milda Maschoff, Elda Leiding; many brothers-and-sisters-in-law; and baby sister, Lela Thiesse.
