Thelma Moore
LAKEVILLE — A memorial service for Thelma “Irene” Moore, age 88, of Lakeville, Minn., formerly a pastor at Fairmont United Methodist Church, will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Lincoln, Neb.
Irene passed away Tuesday morning, March 5, 2024, at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minn., after a month-long battle with an undisclosed illness. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Irene Moore, daughter of William and Thelma (Stevens) Moore, was born July 29, 1935, in Alexandria, Va. She grew up and attended school in Virginia and was a graduate of Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Va.
From 1954 to 1967 Irene worked as an office manager in bookkeeping service and income tax preparation and trained as an accountant. During this time, she was also self-employed as a small business owner providing accountant and tax services.
In 1967, Irene’s career made a shift when she attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, in Lincoln, Neb. Completing her program there, she attended St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri. It was upon her graduation from the seminary that Irene went on to be Director of Christian Education for various churches in Oklahoma and Ohio before she was a pastor for various congregations including Harrod, Willshire and Lily Chapel of the West Ohio Conference.
In 1997, Irene retired to caretake for her mother, Thelma, in Fairmont, Minn. After her mother’s passing, Irene took on a role with Fairmont United Methodist Church serving as an associate pastor until 2007.
In 2014, Irene moved to Rosemount, Minn. to be closer to her niece, Becky, and Becky’s kids (Nora, Elsie, and William) and her nephew, Bill. In 2022, Irene moved in with Becky, Bill and the kids. She enjoyed spending time with them at family dinners and engaging in trivia bouts.
Irene is survived by her niece, Becky; nephew, Bill; grand-nieces, Nora and Elsie; and grand-nephew, William.
Preceding her in death are her mother, Thelma (Stevens) Moore; her father, William A. Moore; her sister, Nora (Moore) Ries; her brother-in-law, Stanley J. Ries; along with her grandparents. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
